
Advance Startup Option:
The advanced startup options can be used to troubleshoot errors that presents during windows 2003 booting.
It can be accessed by pressing F8 key during o/s boot process.
The advanced startup options are:
Safe mode: It loads only the drivers and services needed to get the computer up and running.
It include basic system files and drivers for the mouse, monitor, keyboard, hard disk, standard vedio driver and default system services.
Safe is also known as diagnostic mode & doesn’t support networking features. It shows safe mode in the four corner of desktop.
Safe mode with networking: It is same as safe mode but support networking.
Safe mode with command prompt: It is also same as safe mode but instead of loading the GUI , it loads the command prompt. Advance user can use this mode.
Enable VGA mode: It loads a standard VGA driver without starting computer in safe mode in the case of loading bad device driver and cause booting problem.
Last known good configuration (LKGC): It boots windows 2003 server using the registry information that was last time successfully boot computer, when use LKGC option, Loose current configuration setting.
Directory services restore mode: It is used by windows 2003 server computer that are configured as DC and it is useful when need to restore system stat data or active directory service database on the DC. Only administrator or member of this group can use this mode.
Enable boot logging: It creates a log file that tracks the loading of drives and services and it can be used to trouble shoot the boot process. The log file is created in system root directory by the name of ntbtlog.txt file.
Debugging mode: It runs the kernel debugger if debugging software is installed. It is used by software developer to troubleshoot in kernel.
Boot normally: This option is used in the case of accidentally hit F8 key during the boot process but really wanted to boot normally.
